Support available
What support will be available at the hospital?
A range of staff at the hospital are there to offer you support, including Nurses, Optometrists and Doctors. Henshaws Patient Support Officer also works on a part-time basis at the Manchester Royal Eye Hosptial. Hospital staff should be able to answer any questions you have about your eye condition.
The hospital may also be able to accommodate any specific needs, if you let them know in advance. For example, you should ring ahead if your first language is not English and you require an Interpreter. If you have a specific need, you should also state this on arrival so that a member of the hospital staff can attend to you.
Patients should be aware that hospital visits can often be time-consuming. Eye health is extremely important and it takes time to make sure that your eyes are being properly cared for and examined. We would advise setting aside a full day for your hospital appointment. If the appointment takes longer than anticipated, you will then not feel rushed.
If you are a Diabetic, or require any other medication, you must bring your food and medication with you to the hospital.
