Training opportunities
What training opportunities exist?
In addition to our IT Training, Henshaws also offers a free 12-week pre-vocational course called Skillstep to Success. The course components include: IT, Job search and interview techniques, personal development including confidence building as well as an individually tailored work experience placement. The course has a high success rate in enabling blind or visually impaired people to go onto further training, employment or volunteering.
Henshaws College in Harrogate provides specialist education to 65 younger visually impaired adults, aged 16-19 with additional disabilities. All students follow individually tailored programmes so as to build skills in independent living, mobility and communication.
Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, also provides training opportunities for visually impaired adults. Opportunities exist for visually impaired adults to learn music, crafts, horticulture and a range of artistic pursuits.
Many local further education colleges also offer courses for visually impaired adults and it is best to contact your local Social Services for more information.
