Student support services

Student support Girl helps resident in corridor Physiotherapy

We hold the highest award possible for our care services – a 3 star ‘excellent’ rating from the Care Quality Commission.

One to one support

Our specialist staff give support to students day, evening and weekends.  Many students have one to one staff support.

Each student has a Personal Tutor and Keyworker who offer personal support to enable them to identify realistic objectives for the future.

Specialist therapy

Physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy services are all based on campus.

The occupational therapist will assess the student and offer support in their college programmes and residence on campus.  Occupational therapy supports:

  • Personal care skills
  • Eating and drinking skills
  • Seating and wheelchair reviews
  • Hand function
  • Assessment for aids and adaptations

The College physiotherapist will assess the student and devise an individual treatment or programme. This may include rebound therapy, hydrotherapy and residential walking and exercise programmes along side individual treatment.

Vision support

We have a team of rehabilitation officers that provide specialist training and support for visually impaired students with mobility, daily living and travel skills. Find out more about our Vision Support Services here.

Emotional support

We have our own Behaviour Support Coordinator and can arrange counselling and psychological services where appropriate.

Access to primary care

Students have access to local primary health care services through our local GP practice.

Special dietary needs

All dietary needs are willingly met by our catering team – and we’ve been awarded ‘Healthy College Status’ recognising our commitment to the health of our students, staff and visitors.

Low vision support

Students with residual vision have access to clinical vision assessments carried out by the College’s optometrist. Low vision aids are provided as required, and students receive support and training in their use.
