Run for Henshaws

Great Manchester Run 2009 Great North Run 2009 Great Manchester runners

Take up a challenge for Henshaws this Olympic year!

The valuable sponsorship money raised through people running and swimming for Henshaws has never been more important in helping us to support blind and visually impaired people across the North of England, and it will be especially important during the coming months.

If you’ve done a fundraiser for us in the past, why not try something more challenging, or try to better your time? Or if you’ve never done anything before, then a 10k run or 1 mile swim is the perfect goal to work towards.

If you apply for a ballot place in any race, you can raise money for Henshaws – and there is no minimum sponsorship amount. If however you want to compete in one of the more popular races and couldn’t get in through the ballot, you can apply for a place with Henshaws.  There is a minimum sponsorship amount, but we’ll do everything we can to help you achieve it.

For all our runners, whether you have a charity or a ballot place, we provide:

  • A Henshaws running vest
  • A cheering station on route (selected races)
  • A goody bag
  • Support with fundraising

We have charity places in the following races:

Greater Manchester Marathon in Trafford: 29th April 2012
We are lucky enough to be one of the charity partners for the brand new Greater Manchester Marathon in Trafford, Manchester’s first marathon for more than a decade. The race will start and finish near to our Old Trafford resource centre and will pass iconic landmarks such as the Old Trafford football and cricket grounds over the 26 mile course. There’s just enough time to start training, if you are able to run 8k, you are capable of running a marathon.

The Bupa Great Manchester Run: 20th May 2012
If a marathon is a bit intimidating then why not take part in the nation’s favourite 10k? Taking place in Manchester city centre this will be the tenth stage of the Bupa Great Manchester Run and is being televised live by the BBC.

British Gas Great North Swim: 24th June 2012
Looking for a thrilling swimming experience? The Great North Swim is the UK’s biggest swimming event and is a 1 mile outdoor swim in beautiful Lake Windermere, Cumbria. Experience the thrill of open-water swimming, safe in the knowledge that expert kayakers and safety boats are with you every stroke of the way. If you’d love to take part but don’t know where to start, training plans and advice can be found on the Take to the Streets website.

The Bupa Great North Run: 16th September 2012
The world’s most iconic half marathon, the Great North Run will take you through Newcastle and South Shields and will also be broadcast live on BBC television!

We’d love for you to be part of Team Henshaws, so if you want to take part in any of the events above, or you have an idea of another challenge, please get in touch with Hannah Saxon 01423 814501, Hannah.saxon@henshaws.org.uk. There are limited places for each event so don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Good luck!
