Henshaws College is a leading provider of the highest quality specialist Further Education to young blind and visually impaired people, who have additional learning difficulties or physical disabilities.

Living Life Campaign

Front entrance of CollegeResidential accommodation is essential to Henshaws students as many lessons such as food preparation and personal care take place within this 'home' environment.

To allow those learning opportunities to take place, a redevelopment programme has begun to update the residential units.  With a total cost of £7.5m, the project will provide a range of accommodation that will allow more students to attend the college who are wheelchair users or have severe mobility problems or complex needs.

The Living Life Campaign is Henshaws largest ever capital fundraising campaign. The funds raised so far have paid for purpose-built residential units, providing wheelchair access and modern equipment. Bright, spacious individual rooms, training kitchens and comfortable communal areas now replace the outdated student blocks built in the 1970s.

College has launched its Buy a Brick appeal to raise the final £1 million to pay for modernisation work. When the next phase is complete, 22 more students will benefit from accomodation built with their specific needs in mind. Two of these students will live in "residence flats" where they will be able to practice living semi-independently to prepare them for life beyond College.
