Henshaws Means Business – How You Can Help

Welcome to Henshaws means Business, a range of products and services provided by Henshaws, for businesses…

“Learning outside of the college is great as I can see how my new work skills can be used in real life. I am so much more confident now and have found work that I enjoy.”

Jon, on work placement at Julie’s Café.

Work experience and vocational training are central to our curriculum at Henshaws College and give all the students the opportunity to prepare for life after college. Students are able to take part in 5 vocational pathways – Arts & Crafts, Media, Horticulture, Retail & Office and Hospitality. All our vocational pathways include real and practical work experience, both on and off campus. Our Arts & Crafts Centre shop and café provide training in a real work environment and students also attend work placements at local businesses.

Work placements in local businesses make a huge difference to students. All students attend their work placement with their support worker.

Recent and current work placements include Harrogate Hospital Radio, Halfords, Rawcliffes, Paperworks and Berwins Solicitors, as well as hospitality placements at Julie’s Café in Starbeck and The Hub Café in Cardale Park, Harrogate.

“I love bikes and my real interest is motorbikes. I ride a mountain bike at home and so the Halfords job seemed perfect for me.

My job involves un-packing and putting the bikes together when they arrive in store. I love building the bikes as there are lots of different ones and it can take some skill.

I really like the people who work there too and enjoy going on lunch with them. We talk about cars and bikes, but really I just enjoy getting on with the job.”

Liam, on placement at Halfords
