How would you like to challenge yourself whilst raising money for Henshaws? How about climbing Yorkshire’s 3 Peaks in 12 hours?
Dominating the skyline above the Yorkshire Dales are three peaks; Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent. Covering 24 miles and a 1,700 metre ascent, you will walk through the Yorkshire Dales National Park and see how its spectacular fells tower over the surrounding moors and countryside. Your challenge is to complete the three peaks in 12 hours so that more people with sight loss and other disabilities can build on their independence and lead a fulfilling life.
For a very achievable fundraising target of £100, you can have a great time, achieve a personal goal and help people with sight loss and other disabilities go beyond expectations.

Saturday was unforgettable. It was very hot, and I still can’t believe I completed it. It took just over 12 hours, but I’m thrilled to have finished the 3 peaks. The mountain guides were great, especially Natalie, who encouraged us throughout. I met some lovely people.

Walk the Yorkshire Three Peaks in aid of Henshaws and support people like Ebonie. Ebonie turned 18 just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit. She has Down’s syndrome and autism and was considered clinically vulnerable during the pandemic. Ebonie became socially isolated due to her high-risk status. Her mental health and ability to express herself deteriorated. Her mum, Caroline, says Ebonie regressed 10 years in development over two years. Unfortunately, Ebonie’s expected college placement last September didn’t happen due to staffing shortages.
Ebonie’s mum contacted the Arts and Crafts Centre in Knaresborough run by Henshaws. It was a familiar and local place that Ebonie had visited many times with her family. Many Art Makers knew Ebonie by name. Every summer at the beach festival, Ebonie joined the Art Makers on stage singing and dancing. Luckily, Ebonie joined our drama and music workshops. This helped ease her back into small group activities with her friends here. This has been a turning point for Ebonie. It’s the first time in over two years she’s mixed socially and creatively with other disabled adults and carers. Since starting in October last year, her confidence has soared. She performed on stage again last month, singing in a group at the Art Makers concert. Ebonie now attends four different workshops every week with the carers her mum has recruited and trained.
