Going beyond expectations: Our students perform at Henshaws Got Talent competition
On Friday 31st March we held our annual talent competition where 13 college students sang, danced and signed to demonstrate their own unique talents in front of a proud audience of staff, parents and carers.
Henshaws Got Talent was hosted at our Arts & Crafts Centre in Knaresborough by staff members Nigel and Lisa representing the famous faces of Captain Jack Sparrow and the Vicar of Dibley who kept the audience entertained with their double act. The judges Cher, Adele and Dolly were joined by Stray FM DJ Will Smith to give their feedback on each act’s performance.
Carl Walshe, Henshaws Student Liaison Officer who organised the event, explained the amount of hard work which went on behind the scenes to prepare our students for the show.
“We’ve been building up to the event now for months. Every act has had to get through the initial auditions stage to reach the live final. Students each have a mentor who supports them to work on their routine. This means putting in the hours at breaktimes, lunchtimes, or evenings in the houses if they live in college.
It’s evident on the night just how much effort and work they’ve all put in. Our team supports each individual to remove any barriers by practising their act and enabling them to have the confidence to perform. For many of our students, just being able to get up on stage in front of so many people is a huge achievement in itself.”
Runner up Dara received huge cheers as he went to collect his award, followed by the winner Danielle who gave an outstanding performance of “Love my life” by Robbie Williams.
The atmosphere on the night was brilliant. Being at the event affects everyone in such a positive way. It’s one night where students, staff, friends and family all come together for one big celebration of what our students can achieve."
Carl Walshe, Student Liaison Officer
A big thank you to AV and Data Limited for lending us the film equipment so we could capture the event on the night, and to all the staff teams at college and the Arts & Crafts Centre for making the event possible.
