The final of our 2018 Henshaws Got Talent competition celebrates the diversity of our Specialist College students and their unique talents.
Henshaws students show they’ve Got Talent
The final of the 5th annual Henshaws Got Talent competition took place on Friday 23rd March. The competition is a chance for students at our Specialist College in Harrogate to share their varied talents with the College community.
This year the 14 fantastically diverse final acts included singing, stand up comedy, performance poetry, playing piano, and creation of an animated short film. All these acts had made it through the audition stages to perform at Henshaws Arts & Crafts Centre to an audience of over 100 parents, staff and students.
The final is the culmination of months of effort from students, staff and families and it is evident on the night just how much work they’ve all put in. Each student receives the necessary support to remove any barriers by practising their act and enabling them to have the confidence to perform. For many of our students, being able to get up on stage in front of so many people is a huge achievement in itself.
The superb Mary Poppins (Deputy Principal Lisa Hart) and Mrs Brown (Senior Enabler Maureen Clarkson) were hilarious hosts and our panel of “celebrity” judges did a great job. A host of talented staff performers kept the audience entertained whilst the voting took place.
"This year’s Henshaw’s Got Talent Final was amazing! It is such an amazing experience organising this event and seeing it all come together… I feel incredibly lucky to be part of it. Thanks to all of the amazing staff and volunteer teams a Henshaws that have helped each of our students goes beyond expectations!”

Congratulations go to our 2018 winner, pianist and singer Marnie (pictured above left) and our runner-up William (pictured above right with enabler Sam), who created an animated film which premiered on the night.
