In this short and insightful video, Sylvia shares a practical tip on how she, as a blind mum, ensures her children’s toothbrushes are ready for use. Her approach is straightforward, using touch to manage the task.
Sylvia says
I remember when I used to have good eyesight I would squeeze the toothpaste straight onto my toothbrush.
Losing my eyesight overnight and still having and wanting to live an independent life, I had to get creative and find ways to do even the most random things that we don’t think about, like cleaning the toilet / reaching for the toilet brush.
I will spare you the details of that, but this is how I ended up putting toothpaste on mine and my kids’ toothbrushes as a blind mum. It’s super easy because I can actually feel how much toothpaste is out of the tube. Obviously I wash my hands before starting, before the hygiene police come at me!
Now my kids have this quirky way of applying toothpaste because it’s perfectly normal to them.
Also guys, no AI for aiming toothpaste as far as I know. Tech is amazing but sometimes natural instinct trumps it all!

Sylvia humorously starts by suggesting the use of a phone and an AI app, but quickly discards this idea. Instead, she demonstrates her method, as she squeezes toothpaste directly onto her finger. This tactile method allows her to feel the toothpaste and control the amount. She then transfers the toothpaste from her finger to the toothbrush, ensuring it’s placed accurately. Sylvia reminds viewers to clean their hands after this process.
