As a visually impaired mum, Sylvia balances creativity with maintaining order at home.
This short video demonstrates how she finds it safer and more practical to glide around her home, rather than walking, to avoid unseen obstacles. It’s a simple yet effective adaptation that enables her to maintain independence whilst embracing the mess that comes with having children.
Sylvia’s approach is not just about managing a household, but about creating an environment where creativity can flourish, and making peace with the everyday chaos that comes with it.
Sylvia says:
And voila!
As you can see, my kids LOVE building things, and they actually build a small structure every morning before heading off to school. They love Legos, but I definitely cannot keep up with them – trust me, I tried. So our compromise is megabucks, because at least this way it is less of a, let’s say mess!
As I can’t see the ground clearly while standing, you never really know what is lurking there. So, glide it is for me. This isn’t to say all VIP skii around their home, but it’s just what I found works for me.
Once they’re done playing, I am on all fours swiping my hands across the floor helping them collect their toys. BUT I don’t stress too much about it. Like someone once said, when you have children, it is okay for your home to look like it!
Do you have trouble keeping tabs on your kids’ toys?
Video description
Sylvia talks directly to the camera, while holding a stuffed toy and some building blocks. Video cuts to showing her feet as she wades through some building blocks and other toys, then a side view as she demonstrates the benefits of the gliding motion, where she lifts her foot up and ends up stepping on a building block.
