Holly’s work experience at Zen Sensory

In this blog, student Holly tells us about her experience of doing work experience at Zen Sensory in Harrogate.

Hello everybody

Today I’m going to be talking about my time doing work experience at Zen Sensory.

I have enjoyed working at Zen because I have learnt how important sensory experiences are. It has been really interesting to see how children interact with the toys and animals, I can tell that they love it here and the parents really relax here. Same with the school groups, the teachers always seem really relaxed and I think this is because the centre is really safe and are welcoming to people with all sensory needs.

A warm welcome

The staff have been really welcoming and helpful to me and I have enjoyed my work experience with them.

During the Covid pandemic, they fought to keep Zen open as they understood that it was an essential service for parents as they had a place to go to relax and let their loved ones run around and let off some steam. They clean the equipment after every use so that played to their advantage. They were an essential business as they were supporting people with sensory needs.

Blog writing

I started my work experience in December and I have done blogs on school trips to how zen support the elderly. It has been great to see how sensory experiences help people. My fellow student does deep cleaning of the centre, making teas and welcoming guests. She is continuing to work here after we leave college!

Myself and my fellow student at Henshaws College have opened a world of opportunities for other schools / colleges to do work experience there. They have already been asked if they can accommodate another school doing work experience. We are grateful for the opportunity Zen have given us, we do different jobs but we both feel the same.
