It’s IMCYP’s First Birthday!

What a year! We are pleased to say that we have just completed the first year of our new BBC Children in Need funded project.

IMCYP (Independence Matters for Children and Young People) has supported 34 youngsters aged 8-18yrs through eight courses covering learning objectives in three main areas: independence and life skills, confidence and self-esteem and social interaction and making friends, with participants showing an overall increase of 61%.

Participants learned skills such as safety in the kitchen, iPad, travel and mobility, and daily living whilst having fun, increasing socio-emotional skills and developing meaningful and supportive friendships.

We asked some of our course participants what they thought…

IMCYP is all about widening horizons and stretching boundaries

Robin, 18

I had a really good time on the course, I learned so many new things that are going to help me in my life

Connor, 18

We had lots of fun learning about self-esteem and body language. The course helps you a lot and you learn new things

Ben

He really enjoyed the course, meeting new people and picked up lots of tips he’s been putting into practice

Dad of Oliver, 14

We learned about aids and equipment and how to make a sandwich and pour a drink. You should join IMCYP because it helps you learn lots of new things

Amy

A change of name

Going into Year 2 we will be changing the name of IMCYP to ‘I Can Do It’. We feel that the new title explains the course a lot better, and the children and young people attending the sessions were in agreement. Please let us know your thoughts about our new name!
