Our students have a range of preferred communication methods e.g. photos, symbols, signing, Braille, the spoken word and large print. Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) is a pivotal part of our offer, and the Communications Administrator would work closely with SaLT, Education and Care teams to support the production of resources to meet the individual’s needs. The role will enable and empower our students to access information in a usable format, and improve their use of their communication strategies physically and through the use of assistive technologies.  You will also be expected to ensure Henshaw’s College fully complies with the Accessible Information Standard.

The college is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual, who is a competent and proven administrator to use existing skills or develop and acquire a new suite of skills in communicating information in a range of formats.

As the only specialist post-16 provider in the region, Henshaw’s Specialist College provides educational packages to help young people prepare for adulthood. We are seeking to appoint a post-holder that will evolve the written word into a range of user-friendly communication formats for our students.

The post-holder will develop a repository of ready to use documents for future adaptation as well as prepare materials by request for timetabled classes. The post holder will have an excellent attention to detail, be at ease working on their own, and comfortable providing a service for others in an often fast paced environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify a requests system that supports staff and students to communicate their needs for the production of materials.
  • Provide supportive and positive services to translate the written and spoken word into other appropriate formats.
  • Undertake training and attend workshops to ensure currency in language and communication.
