We would love to hear from you with or without care experience – We have a full training Induction programme which includes shadowing our experienced Care team, completing all relevant training and the Care certificate.

£9.65-£10.65 per hour

Term-time only 38 weeks 

(Summer and Christmas holiday with the family! Or you can take on supply hours to cover holidays in our other services)

Shifts are fixed and do not change on a rota basis – You can plan your home and social life!

5 Weeks Annual leave plus 10 days bank holiday (pro-rata term-time/part-time)

Up to four paid days per year off per year for unforeseen emergency domestic situations.

No travelling between clients

No Uniform

Care is a highly skilled vocation, you are fundamental support to help a person live a full, happy, inspiring life! You look after medication needs, personal health needs that makes a person feel dignified. You are a sounding board, a role model, a life giver!

Henshaws was open through COVID we kept all staff and students safe throughout the pandemic and this was recognised by the NHS Inspector as an example to other SEN Colleges.

Student Holly shares her story

“My name is Holly, I’m 17 and I have cerebral palsy. I go to Henshaws Specialist College in Harrogate. In my spare time I like to watch TV. My favourite shows are Call the Midwife, The Big Bang Theory and Queer Eye. I also like to go on weekends away with my friends. I use an eye gaze computer to communicate. I have a wicked sense of humour!

In a perfect world, people wouldn’t make assumptions about disabled people and would get to know them individually. I feel like people see disability as a disadvantage but that’s not true. We are just people who just happen to be different but… DIFFERENT IS GOOD!!!

So next time you meet a disabled person, just treat them like you would treat any other person.”

Henshaws Specialist College in Harrogate is a transformational place. Through our personalised approach to education, learning and care we empower young people aged 16-25 living with a disability to progress and live life the way they want.
