Henshaws Specialist College in Harrogate is a transformational place. Through our personalised approach to education, learning and care we empower young people aged 16-25 living with a disability to progress and live life the way they want.

We provide an integrated therapy delivery service and that we work collaboratively with our care and education colleagues to support students to access learning.

Due to increased student numbers, we are recruiting for an experienced and motivated Sensory Integration (SI) Therapist to work at our inspiring college in Harrogate.

Job Summary

To assess, deliver and evaluate high-quality sensory integration programmes to young people with a range of complex needs. You will work in a multi-disciplinary team of therapists, specialists, tutors and care professionals. A key function of the role is to enable students and service users to engage with and access their college programme, leisure and recreational opportunities. You will provide advice, guidance, training and support to ensure that best sensory integration practice is promoted.

Key responsibilities will include:

To undertake specialist high-quality assessments and make recommendations about appropriate therapeutic interventions for each young person, in accordance with individually assessed needs. Assess all components of the sensory systems and how this impacts on their functional performance and behaviour.

Produce sensory profiles and related information regarding the effective support of an individual; which may contain information regarding their motor, perceptual and modulation presentation skills, and to ascertain how any deficits impact on their function and participation.

Produce and communicate sensory profiles and guidance for our colleagues to enable them to deliver appropriately stimulating, meaningful and engaging programmes.

The ideal candidate will possess:

Ability to work within a framework of reflective practice and supervision (clinical)

Skilled at making a differential diagnosis and identifying the appropriate intervention on the basis of evidence from the assessment.

A professional qualification in sensory integration from the si network or asiwise, level 3 or equivalent that allows for assessment, interpretation, design and delivery of sensory integration therapy, is essential.
