Location: Henshaws Specialist College, Harrogate but will work and travel across all of our sites in the Yorkshire region including residential community houses, arts and crafts centre and Bradford Centre.

Henshaws is a charity that supports people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities to achieve their ambitions and go beyond expectations.  We aim to is enable people with sight loss and people with other disabilities to build the skills and independence they need to achieve the future they want.

To maintain and uphold these values, we are looking to appoint a Specialist Rehabilitation Officer, to work as part of a team delivering a high quality rehabilitation service including assessments, orientation and mobility, living skills and communication training.

The Sensory team is an innovative service who sits within the wider Therapy Education and Sensory Support team (TESS). Our main objective is to identify, design, deliver and evaluate professional rehabilitation interventions to visually impaired people of various ages, to enhance their skills and confidence to maximise their independence.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Honours Degree or Dip. H.E / Foundation Degree in Rehabilitation Studies (Visual Impairment) or equivalent rehabilitation qualification, or Mobility Officer’s Certificate AND Technical Officer’s Certificate
  • Knowledge and skills in assessment and training of orientation and mobility, communication and independent living skills
  • Experience of working with visually impaired people in a rehabilitation/habilitation setting
  • Experience in teaching Braille and Moon
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptive

We work across a number of sites including the Arts and Crafts Centre, Housing & Support and college.  It would be advantageous to possess previous experience supporting people with learning disabilities and knowledge of accessible technology and adapted resources. However, full training will be provided.
