Fundraising at 11,000 ft – meet the people who skydived for Henshaws!
We had 5 brave adventurers - Kate, Kerry, Roy, Maria and Danny - jump out of a plane at 11,000 on Sunday at Black Knights Parachute Centre all in the name of fundraising for Henshaws! We share their experience and photos below.
The morning was off to a rocky start, as the terrible weather forecast meant that the day had to be called off – but luckily the sun came out for our jumpers bright and early on Sunday morning, and the parachute jumps were called back on.
First up was Kate and Kerry who both work at Yew Tree Lane, one of our residential services in Manchester. Kate has a big dislike of roller coasters but wanted to give the jump a go for Henshaws – and luckily the two had a ball doing their skydive. Maybe even next time it’ll be 15,000 ft! If you’d like to show your support, you can still do so on Kate’s JustGiving page or on Kerry’s page.
Next was Maria and Roy – who jumped at 11,000 ft as well. Roy is a volunteer at our Manchester hub and Maria comes to our braille and yoga groups, which she says she “thoroughly enjoys and has met some really nice people” during her time at Henshaws. They both did a fantastic job, although Maria did find the free-fall terrifying! Luckily though the parachute part more than made up for it, and both came down smiling.
If you’d like to support Maria, you can still do so on her JustGiving page. Roy doesn’t have a JustGiving page but you’re welcome to contact the fundraising team if you’d like to show him your support.
Last to jump on the day was Danny – who decided to take the challenge to the next level by going up to 15,000 ft. Danny comes to our Manchester community hub and has been doing a fantastic job fundraising – he’s even been featured on ITV and the Manchester Evening News. Watch the video below to catch him landing to the ground after his massive jump:
If you’d like to support Danny, you can still do so on his JustGiving page.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to all our jumpers – we’re definitely in awe! – and to the Black Knights Parachute Centre for all their support.
Want to get in on the action? Don’t worry, it’s not too late: we have more days booked for May and September 2017 to come jump for Henshaws. Find out more on our event page here or contact us on 0161 786 3656.
We can't do it without you
Henshaws rely on voluntary donations; our work just wouldn’t be possible without people like you. Your support empowers local people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities to increase their independence, achieve their dreams, and go beyond expectations.
