Bolton Society for Blind People merges with Henshaws
We're pleased to announce that as of 1st April 2017, Henshaws has merged with the charity Bolton Society for Blind People (BSBP).
Since the 1940s, staff and volunteers of the Bolton Society for Blind People (BSBP) have worked tirelessly in the community, enabling and supporting blind adults in Bolton.
Recent trading for BSBP has been difficult with a reduction in grant awards leading to a significant drop in income. Following difficult discussions it was confirmed by the charity that it would close unless an alternative solution could be found, and it was agreed that the best solution was to merge with Henshaws to ensure the continuation of BSBP activities for the benefit of all its members.
Services will continue to operate in the Sensory Centre at Thicketford with support from Bolton Council. The change will mean visually impaired Bolton residents will be able to access more services and existing services will be protected. The move does not affect Henshaws service users in any way.
I am delighted that through the merger with Henshaws, we will be able to continue our vital support to the visually impaired adults of Bolton.”
David Hulton, BSBP Chairman
Henshaws Director of Community Services Robert Cooper said:
“We are delighted to be given this exciting opportunity to merge with such a great organisation. Both charities are focused on ensuring that people of all ages living with sight loss make informed choices about their future. Bolton Council is very supportive of the merger and we are delighted to say that the current charity coordinator Justine Watson will continue in her post when she returns from maternity leave.
In addition, we are currently advertising to fill a new post of ‘Community Enablement Officer for Bolton’ who will support to deliver services.”
Henshaws look forward to working with the Bolton community! We are holding a Focus Day in Bolton on 27th June for anyone with a visual impairment in the area, where you’ll have the opportunity to try some of the technology on offer to maintain your independence, and discuss your needs with our expert staff. You’ll also be able to chat about the other support Henshaws can offer you, like social groups, activities, counselling and much more.
To book your place, please RSVP on 0161 872 1234 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We can't do it without you
Henshaws rely on voluntary donations; our work just wouldn’t be possible without people like you. Your support empowers local people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities to increase their independence, achieve their dreams, and go beyond expectations.
