Art Maker Dolly’s fundraiser for friendship!

Art Maker Dolly has been taking part in the creative workshops at Henshaws Arts & Crafts Centre for many years. During that time she has made many friends. Sadly, two of these friends passed away recently and Dolly wanted to help fundraise for a memorial bench to create a place where everyone could go and remember Carol and John.

Art Maker Dolly rolls paper into beads at an Arts & Crafts Centre fundraiserVisually impaired Dolly is a regular in our jewellery workshops where she can indulge her passion for all things shiny and glittery.  She loves to be creative and finds the process of designing and making jewellery and artwork therapeutic.  Dolly has learnt a crafting technique which involves rolling paper to create “beads” which she uses to create unique jewellery pieces, gifts and art.

A box containing strips of coloured paper and another box full of brightly coloured paper beadsAfter talking with Kate Simpson, Henshaws Community Fundraiser, Dolly decided to have a sponsored paper roll in the Arts & Crafts Centre café to raise money towards the purchase of a memorial bench.  In just 3 hours she managed to roll 154 beads, chat to members of the public, and still eat lunch!

Dolly was desperate to do something to support the fundraising of a memorial bench at the Arts & Crafts Centre.  I was delighted to help her with her plans and loved the idea of using the skills and techniques she has learnt as an Art Maker as a way to raise money. We had a lovely time and all for an amazing cause!”
