A wonderful afternoon at Henshaws Awards 2016
We held our annual awards afternoon at the Lowry Theatre last Thursday, celebrating the achievements of our service users, volunteers, staff and supporters across our Community Services.
We were lucky to be joined by BBC Radio 4’s In Touch presenter Tom Walker, who hosted the afternoon for us, and joined by charity President Warren Smith the HM Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester and the Mayors of Bolton, Bury, Tameside and Trafford.
We had performances from the fantastic Denise Leigh and Stefan Andrusyschyn, and from our very own Guitar Group, who performed some rock classics, including The Eagles ‘Take It Easy’. You can watch a snippet of their performances on our Facebook page.
It was a fantastic afternoon celebrating the achievements of our service users, volunteers, staff and supporters in 6 different categories. We were pleased to announce Alan, Avril, Rob, Abdi, Faye and Walker Activity Dome as winners in their categories after a long, difficult deliberation from our awards panel. We also brought out a special certificate for Alicia, who after walking an unbelievable 180 miles blindfolded for us earlier this month, raised a fantastic £12,000 for Henshaws!
All our winners came home with a unique trophy, handmade by our Art Makers at the Henshaws Arts & Crafts Centre in Knaresborough (see photo below).
Congratulations to all our winners, and to everyone who was nominated for an award! Check out some of the photos from our afternoon below.
We can't do it without you
Henshaws rely on voluntary donations; our work just wouldn’t be possible without people like you. Your support empowers local people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities to increase their independence, achieve their dreams, and go beyond expectations.
