Henshaws is thrilled to announce the tremendous success of the Henshaws Hundreds 2024 event. Hundreds of dedicated supporters came together to raise just over a fantastic £36,000.00 for the sight loss and disability charity. This June, participants from all walks of life embraced the challenge to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Henshaws service users.
Empowering Activities
The Henshaws Hundreds Challenge empowered individuals to transform their favourite activities into fundraisers. From running and walking to singing and baking, participants set unique #HenshawsHundreds goals. Their creativity and commitment were extraordinary. Whether tackling challenges solo or rallying friends, family, and colleagues, the community united with a shared purpose.
Inclusivity at Its Best
In the UK, 22 out of every 100 people live with a disability. Henshaws Hundreds welcomed everyone, regardless of ability, to participate. Each person aimed to raise £100 in ways that reflected their passions and talents. The event featured activities ranging from community bake sales to marathon Stepper sessions. Every effort, no matter how small, had a profound impact.
Supporting Independence
Henshaws commits to ensuring individuals with sight loss and other disabilities have the opportunity to lead independent and fulfilling lives. The funds raised will directly support these individuals. They will help them develop skills, build confidence, and embrace brighter futures. This year, every pound raised was matched, doubling the effect of the community’s generosity. If you raised £100, it became £200 to support Henshaws’ service users.
Inspiring Stories from the Challenge
Rob Northfield’s Monumental Climb
Devoted Henshaws Patron Rob Northfield embarked on a three-hour stair master climb before his 71st birthday. He aimed to raise £7,100. His dedication brought in an astounding £10,300, showcasing the power of community support.
DJ Rory Hoy’s Marathon Mix
Henshaws Ambassador and gifted DJ Rory Hoy created a marathon DJ mix of 100 tunes available for download. Cameron and James Love’s Father and Son Tandem Cycle
Cameron attended Henshaws Specialist College and now the Arts and Crafts Centre in Knaresborough. These experiences transformed his life. For the second year in a row, he and his father took on a tandem cycle of 100 miles in June, raising a fantastic £3,860.00. Cameron is non-verbal, autistic, with learning difficulties and various health issues. He requires 1-to-1 support around the clock. The challenge gives Cameron the chance to fundraise for the college, which contributed so much to his confidence and ability to deal with daily life obstacles.
Jack Wray’s Cumbria Walk in Memory of His Beloved Sister
Jack took part in the Henshaws Hundreds Challenge, walking the Cumbria Way for his sister Daisy. She attended the Arts and Crafts Centre. Daisy sadly passed away in December 2023 and was loved by all at Henshaws. Jack and his family raised an incredible £2,048 for Henshaws in memory of Daisy. They walked all 73 miles across the Cumbria Way.
Elli Dixon’s Evolving Fitness Challenge Tribe
As one of our amazing Ambassadors, Elli involved her Evolving Fitness Challenge tribe in various exercise challenges over June. Participants took on skipping, kettlebell swings, pull-ups, running, swimming, and even sea swimming. They aimed to raise money and push their physical limits.
Tytherington School’s ‘Be Involved’ Challenge
Students from the Tytherington School community came together to participate in Henshaws Hundreds. They championed their ‘Be Involved’ key school value. They supported charity through embroidery, swimming, and even shooting 100 netball scores.
