Henshaws United recognised at the annual North East Disability Awards

Newcastle Henshaws’ football team, Henshaws United, were awarded runners up for ‘Team of the Year’ at the annual North East Disability Awards last week.

A huge congratulations to Henshaws United, the football team from Henshaws in Newcastle, for being awarded runners up at the annual North East Disability Awards 2016 on Thursday 23rd March!

The football team have scored some fantastic achievements over the past year; including winning two local tournaments, as well as the George Best Cup in Belfast in July 2016, a pan disability competition which consisted of 72 teams from throughout the UK.

The North East Disability Sports Awards celebrates the amazing achievements of local athletes, coaches and organisations have made to disability sport around the North East. The event was held at Slaley Hall, with guests including Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery and following Team GB’s Paralympic success in Rio 2016, a number of different Paralympian guests and winners including Matt Wylie, Stephen Miller and Jade Jones.

Just getting selected by the panel and reaching the presentation night is a massive honour. Everybody involved in the awards has overcome massive physical and social barriers, and has achieved something great. I’m so proud of the Henshaws team for all they have achieved.”
