Living well with sight loss!

Here at Henshaws, we are proud to work with people of all ages, both children and adults, who are living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities. We aim to empower them to take steps to improve their lives, with independence and friendship at the heart of everything we do.

Through our fantastic sight loss support team, we aim to change lives through support, understanding and empathy. We know that living well with sight loss can be a journey for some people, so we’re here to help you get to the finish line in any way we can.

What we offer here at Henshaws

Through our award-winning Pathway to Independence programme, we tailor support, activities, and training to meet each individual’s needs and to support them with living with sight loss.

Our centres across Greater Manchester and Liverpool offer a range of services to improve the quality of life of more than 7,000 visually impaired people. Our digital and phone services mean we can even support you from home – we’re here to help in whatever way you feel most comfortable.

We also offer social and support groups throughout Greater Manchester, which are an excellent opportunity to meet new people living with sight loss, enjoy an afternoon of activities, or have a chat. These include social groups, interest-based groups such as our Museums and Galleries group, and specialist groups such as Tech Talk.

Whether you want counselling, friendly faces, information and guidance, training and support, or some hints and tips, our sight loss support page will get you where you need to be.

The people behind our sight loss support team

Our friendly and experienced staff and volunteers are passionate and committed to delivering valuable services that change the lives of those living with sight loss. Each service user’s journey is unique and special, and our team are committed to being there every step of the way, no matter the circumstances.

One of our amazing service users had lovely feedback for our team: “From the first session, I felt at ease and comfortable with Joanna as she explained the format. As I told my ‘story,’ I felt listened to in an empathic, nonjudgmental way. It was such a relief to feel validated.

As each weekly session passed, I could reflect on all we had discussed and observe my emotions and how to work with them positively. The whole series of sessions were very uplifting, motivating, and supportive.”

All of our team members are trained to support children, young people and adults through whatever they need, so you can be sure that you are in safe hands.
