Winter message from our President, Sir Warren Smith
As 2020 comes to an end, we received a special video message from the Henshaws President, Sir Warren Smith, Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester.
“Shielding for the last nine months has given me ample time to reflect on what has changed, and what is our new normal.
People have become innovative, finding new ways to communicate and work away from the workplace. We are becoming more socially aware, helping others struggling, befriending the socially isolated, and providing services to those who cannot access them.
During our daily exercise, everyone we pass nods and says hello from 2 metres away, as we enjoy and appreciate the fresh air. There is a solidarity in our self-isolation or social distancing.”
“What has not changed is your willingness, the family that is Henshaws, continuing with your work helping those who need support and are unable to help themselves.
It is a privilege for me to be President of such a remarkable organisation and I would like to thank each and every one of you for your contribution to making Henshaws what it is today. We have a remarkable legacy going back almost 200 years from the generosity of Thomas Henshaw and an equally remarkable future because of your hard work and how you have been prepared to adapt to challenges, sometimes day by day.”
“I do hope that Christmas brings you some peace and respite and let us hope for us all a peaceful, safe, healthy, and happy New Year.”
Sir Warren also recorded a special video message for us as part of our Winter Fundraising Appeal; any donations to our charity will help us to support the most vulnerable people in our community through the winter months. Please visit our online donations page or call us on 0300 222 5555.
Thank you for your support.
We can't do it without you
Henshaws rely on voluntary donations; our work just wouldn’t be possible without people like you. Your support empowers local people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities to increase their independence, achieve their dreams, and go beyond expectations.
