Wonderful day trip on the Llangollen Steam Train

Our Liverpool centre went for a trip to Llangollen Railway this week; a relaxing 10 miles travelling through the stunning Dee Valley to the lovely town of Corwen and the cross roads of North Wales.

Marie, our Community Services Development Coordinator, shares with us how the day went on:

“The sun was shining as 35 of Henshaws services users boarded the coach for Llangollen. Our journey went without any hitches and we were able to enjoy the drive and beautiful scenery, and catch up on each other’s news.

We arrived at Llangollen station ahead of time giving us the opportunity to listen to one of the station’s volunteers give an impromptu talk about the history of the station. With time to spare, we were able to browse around the gift shop or enjoy a drink before boarding the steam train.

Then we heard it; the noise of the train arriving at the station, we couldn’t contain our excitement! We waited patiently while the stations catering staff prepared our carriages ready for afternoon tea.

We boarded the train, and how spoilt we were! We sat at our tables all set out with tablecloths, cutlery and a selection of finger sandwiches and cakes, which of course includedtraditional Welch cakes and Barabrith cake.

We travelled at a leisurely pace A photo taken from the window of the train as it passes by an old station, with someone eating afternoon tea in the corner of the imagealong the ten miles from Llangollen to Corwen, allowing us to enjoy the beautiful Welsh country side. Our return journey was a bit livelier; we had the pleasure of a sing song from some of our group – even our coach driver joined in.

After being fed and watered we made our way to the carpark, with some of us stopping for some homemade ice cream and souvenirs on the way. We arrived safe and sound at Henshaws and we had a resounding ‘yes we have had a great day out, when is the next one?’”
