Yorkshire 3 Peaks Success – 2024 Challenge Raises £38,000

The Henshaws Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge 2024 was a remarkable success. Over 120 dedicated participants raised an impressive £38,000 to support individuals living with sight loss and various disabilities. The annual event, held on Saturday, July 13th, saw enthusiastic hikers tackling the iconic 24-mile trek across Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough.

Record-Breaking Fundraising Efforts

This year’s fundraising efforts surpassed previous records. The community’s growing support for Henshaws’ mission is evident. The funds raised will directly contribute to vital services. These include community support, residential services, and employability programs. These funds empower individuals living with sight loss and other disabilities to lead more independent and fulfilling lives.

“We are thrilled with the incredible turnout and the generosity of our supporters,” said Flora Simpson, Senior Fundraiser at Henshaws. “I took on the challenge myself this year. It is very tough, so hats off to anyone who takes part. The funds raised will significantly impact the lives of those we support. They will help provide essential services and open up opportunities for those we care for.”

Spirit of Camaraderie and Determination

Participants faced varying weather conditions throughout the challenging hike. Despite this, the spirit of camaraderie and determination was palpable. Teams of friends, families, and colleagues banded together. Each step brought them closer to their fundraising goals and personal triumphs. Many hikers shared stories of inspiration and motivation. These stories highlighted the profound impact Henshaws has had on their lives and their loved ones.

Inspirational Stories

Among the participants was Jan Mackaness. Her astounding fundraising efforts have left everyone at Henshaws in awe. She raised a fantastic £7,330 through various means. Jan shared the following message:

A huge thanks to Henshaws for a well-organised and supported Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge day last Saturday. I hadn’t expected it to be such a fun day—tough, yes, but fun, no, and it was! The team spirit and sense of camaraderie as we scrambled up the peaks was fabulous. The greetings of ‘Are you with Henshaws?’ from other walkers along the way made us feel very motivated and involved in the challenge. Why Henshaws? Because it’s a local charity bringing real change to people’s lives. People have to climb peaks and go beyond expectations every single day, not just one. I hope that as this year’s Henshaws students graduate this Friday, they feel the same sense of triumph I did as I crossed the finish line with two minutes to spare!”

Celebrating Achievements

The event concluded at the finish line in Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Participants were greeted with applause, medals, and certificates. Volunteers and supporters cheered as the hikers crossed the finish line. They celebrated their amazing accomplishments.

Henshaws extends its heartfelt gratitude to all participants, donors, and volunteers who made the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge 2024 a resounding success. Special thanks to Get Outdoors and the team at Rapid Relief. They provided support and resources, ensuring the event ran smoothly and safely.

Looking Forward to 2025
