Step back in time with the audio described tour Ordsall Hall provides through the Smartify app. Narrated by Anne Hornsby of Mind’s Eye Audio Description, this digital, self-guided experience brings the stories of the Hall and its former residents to life, specially designed for blind and partially sighted visitors.
When & Where:
This tour is available during normal opening hours at Ordsall Hall:
- Monday to Thursday: 10.00am – 4.00pm
- Friday and Saturday: Closed
- Sunday: 11.30am – 4.00pm
Note: Ordsall Hall is closed on Bank Holidays.
Who is eligible?
This tour welcomes everyone, especially those with sight loss or additional access needs. Whether exploring independently or with support, the experience is designed with inclusivity and flexibility in mind.
What to expect:
With a stop in every room, this tour offers an immersive journey through the Tudor building. You’ll hear engaging stories and historical insights, along with sensory guidance on objects that can be safely touched. Many features are hands-on, though visitors are asked to avoid touching the dark wood furniture and taxidermy animals.
The tour is best followed in app order, as each point includes wayfinding instructions between stops. However, QR codes marked with an AD (Audio Description) symbol are also available at each location, ideal for those with a sighted companion or good scanning access. Friendly staff and volunteers are always on hand to assist if needed.

No booking is needed. Download the Smartify app ahead of your visit or scan the tour QR code on arrival. You’re also welcome to explore the tour in advance at home.
