Audio Described Tour at Salford Museum and Art Gallery

Experience art and history like never before with the audio described tour Salford Museum offers through the Smartify app. Designed by Anne Hornsby of Mind’s Eye Audio Description, this self-guided digital tour brings the museum’s collection vividly to life for blind and partially sighted visitors.

When & Where:

This tour is available during regular opening hours at Salford Museum and Art Gallery:

  • Monday: Closed
  • Tuesday to Friday: 9.30am – 4.00pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: 11.30am – 4.00pm
Note: The museum is closed on Bank Holidays.

Who is eligible?

The tour is open to all visitors but is especially suited for blind and partially sighted people, including those using screen readers or mobility aids. You can use the tour solo or with a companion.

What to expect:

You’ll be guided through key parts of the museum, including the Victorian Gallery and Lark Hill Place, a recreated Victorian street. Sculptures in the Victorian Gallery can be touched, and tactile tiles are included in the tour. You may borrow a lantern for use in Lark Hill Place.
The tour is best experienced in the app’s suggested order for ease of wayfinding, but QR codes are available at each stop for flexible navigation. Staff are also happy to help if you need assistance moving between stops.

Booking Required:

No booking is needed – just download the Smartify app in advance or scan the QR code when you arrive. You can also listen to the tour at home beforehand if preferred.
