Henshaws Braille Group

If you’re blind or visually impaired and want to learn or improve your Braille skills, the Bolton Braille group is a great place to do just that. Each week, we bring people together to practise Braille in a friendly, relaxed setting that supports learning and connection.

Whether you’re completely new to Braille or brushing up after some time away, you’ll find a welcoming environment where everyone learns at their own pace. No previous experience is needed – just a willingness to take part and explore something new.

When & Where:

We meet every Tuesday from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at The Sensory Centre, Tonge Moor, 336 Ainsworth Lane, Bolton, BL2 2QL. The venue is fully accessible and located near public transport links, making it easy to attend.

Who is eligible?

Adults with sight loss from Bolton and nearby areas are welcome. You don’t need to be formally registered blind or partially sighted. If your vision affects your daily life and you’re curious about Braille, this group is for you. Carers and support workers can also come along if needed.

What to expect:

Each session combines learning and conversation. You’ll practise Braille with help from staff and volunteers who offer encouragement and practical support. Some members are learning the Braille alphabet for the first time. Others are working on reading, writing or using Braille for everyday tasks like labelling or note-taking.

Alongside the learning, the group gives you a chance to socialise and connect with others. Many members say the sessions help them grow in confidence while enjoying a sense of community. It’s not just about learning – it’s also about being part of something supportive.

Booking Required:

Please make sure to book your place before attending. This allows us to prepare the right materials and ensure everyone has the support they need. Unfortunately, we can’t accept drop-ins.
