Henshaws Children and Young People Activities

Henshaws offers a wide range of activities for blind children and families across Greater Manchester. These sessions run on weekends and during school holidays, offering children and young people with sight loss the chance to try something new, meet others, and enjoy fun experiences alongside their families.

Whether you’re looking for physical activities, creative sessions, or social opportunities, our events create positive, inclusive spaces where children feel supported and families feel connected.

When & Where:

Our activities for blind children and families take place throughout Greater Manchester and nearby areas. Events are held on weekends and during school holidays at various accessible venues chosen to suit the type of activity.

Who is eligible?

Children and young people up to the age of 18 with sight loss can attend. Families are an important part of the experience – we welcome parents, carers, siblings and extended family members too. Whether you’ve used Henshaws services before or are getting in touch for the first time, you’ll be warmly welcomed.

What to expect:

We offer a mix of physical, creative and social sessions, including indoor and outdoor activities. These may include accessible climbing, adapted sports, arts and crafts, sensory play and family-friendly social events. Each session is designed with inclusion in mind and focuses on helping young people grow in confidence while having fun.

Family members are encouraged to join in, which makes the activities enjoyable for everyone. Many families tell us these sessions help reduce isolation, build friendships, and create lasting memories.

Booking Required:

You must book in advance to attend. There is a small booking fee for most activities, but we highly subsidise the cost. We also offer a fee waiver policy that is shared in a respectful way to make sure finances are never a barrier to taking part.
