Trafford Braille and Social Group

If you’re looking to build your Braille skills while enjoying friendly company in a relaxed setting, the Trafford Braille and Social Group could be the perfect fit. This group combines two much-loved sessions – our Trafford Braille Group and Friday Social Group – into one welcoming weekly meet-up.

Whether you’re completely new to Braille or already have some experience, you’ll be supported to learn at your own pace. At the same time, you’ll be part of a friendly community where conversation, connection and shared interests are at the heart of every session.

When & Where:

The group meets every Friday from 10:30am to 1:30pm at Stretford Library, Bennett Street, Stretford, M32 8AP. The venue is fully accessible and close to public transport.

Who is eligible?

We welcome adults in Trafford and surrounding areas who are blind or visually impaired. You don’t need to be formally registered as blind or partially sighted – if your vision affects your day-to-day life, this group is for you. Carers and companions are also welcome.

What to expect:

Each session includes informal Braille learning with guidance from staff and volunteers, alongside plenty of time to chat and enjoy social activities. Some people focus on learning Braille, others join for the conversation, or both – it’s entirely up to you.

You might be learning the Braille alphabet, using it for labelling, or simply curious about how it works. Meanwhile, the group also offers games, tea and biscuits, and time to share news and stories in a relaxed atmosphere.

Booking Required:

Due to high demand, this group currently operates a waiting list. If you’d like to join, please get in touch so we can take your details and let you know when a space becomes available.
