New Macular Degeneration Support Group

The New Macular Degeneration Support Group was created to meet the growing need for peer-led support in Bury. Meeting monthly, it offers a warm and welcoming space for people affected by macular conditions to connect, learn, and feel understood.

When & Where

First Wednesday of every month, 1:30pm to 3:00pm
Bury Society for Blind and Partially Sighted People, 6–8 Trafford Street, Bury, BL9 0TY

Who is eligible?

Anyone living with macular degeneration is welcome, whether newly diagnosed or managing sight loss for some time. In addition, carers and family members are encouraged to join and take part in the discussions.

What to expect

Each session includes time for conversation, questions, and shared advice. Topics often cover living with vision loss, using accessible technology, and finding emotional support. Moreover, you can talk as much or as little as you like, the group is shaped by its members.

Importantly, the New Macular Degeneration Support Group provides a safe space where people feel heard and valued. Volunteers and staff are always available to help, and all resources are offered in accessible formats. You’ll find it easy to get involved, even if this is your first time attending a group.

Because the focus is on peer support, many participants find encouragement from others in similar situations. As a result, the group often becomes a trusted and regular part of their routine.
