Oldham Tech Talk

If you’re blind or visually impaired and want to feel more confident using technology, our Oldham Tech Talk group is a great place to begin. Whether you’re completely new to accessible tech or already using devices like smartphones or voice assistants, this group gives you the chance to learn more in a relaxed, friendly space.

Each month, we explore how technology can support everyday life. From staying connected with family to using apps for reading or navigation, there are simple tools that can make a big difference. Our aim is to help you build confidence, one step at a time.

When & Where:

We meet on the fourth Wednesday of every month, from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Sessions are held in the London Plane Room at Positive Steps, Medtia Place, 80 Union Street, Oldham, OL1 1DJ. The venue is fully accessible and centrally located, with good transport links.

Who is eligible?

The group is open to adults with sight loss living in Oldham or nearby. You don’t need to be confident with tech – many people come along just to find out what’s available. Carers and support workers are welcome too, as learning together can be helpful.

What to expect:

Each session is led by a member of our Digital Team and includes informal discussions about all aspects of tech that are relevant to sight loss. Our team offers friendly, hands-on support.

We cover a wide range of topics – from apps that help with reading and navigation and settings that make devices easier to use, to tech that is rumoured to be in the pipeline. Being part of a supportive Oldham Tech Talk group truly makes a difference.

You’ll also hear real-life experiences from other attendees. These shared insights often lead to simple tips and clever shortcuts that you might not find elsewhere.

Booking Required:

Please book in advance, as we’re unable to accept drop-ins. Booking helps us prepare the space, arrange support and make sure everyone gets the most out of the session.
