Working Age Young People Macular Support Group

If you’re a working-age adult living with macular disease in Greater Manchester, you don’t have to face it alone. The Manchester Macular Society WAYP (Working Age Young People) Support Group offers a dedicated space where you can connect with others who understand the impact of sight loss on work, study, family and social life.

This group brings together people in similar stages of life to talk openly, share experiences and find reassurance. Whether you’re newly diagnosed or have been managing your condition for years, you’ll be welcomed into a friendly, understanding community.

When & Where:

Meetings take place on the second Saturday of January, March, May, July, September and November. Venues and times vary to make sessions more accessible across Greater Manchester. Please contact us for current details.

Who is eligible?

This group is specifically for individuals of working age affected by macular disease. That includes people balancing careers, parenting, education or caring responsibilities while managing sight loss. If you’re unsure whether it’s the right fit, get in touch – we’re always happy to talk.

What to expect:

Each meeting offers time to chat, learn and feel supported. Sessions often feature guest speakers, such as low vision specialists, technology experts or people with lived experience. Topics may include workplace adjustments, mental wellbeing, accessible tech, or simply how to stay connected. You’ll also have the chance to share your own story – or just listen, if that’s what you prefer.

You don’t need to commit to every session. Come along as and when you can. Everyone attending is there for similar reasons – to learn more, to feel less isolated, and to build confidence.
