“Volunteering allowed me to be a dedicated follower of fashion”

Hi, I’m Claire and I’ve always loved fashion. When the opportunity arose to support Henshaws whilst doing what I love, I jumped at the chance!

Together with two friends, we arranged a Fashion Auction evening, stocking the rails with quality and designer clothes. We cleared out our closets, encouraged friends to spring clean their wardrobes, and even got local businesses involved in donating accessories and raffle prizes.

The most enjoyable part turned out to be a mini publicity photo-shoot we arranged. We draped ourselves in designer dresses, hats, shoes and handbags, whilst another friend stood above us on a stepladder taking photos!

The pictures obviously captured the public attention, as the donations started rolling in. I was in absolute heaven cataloguing all the clothes (including several generous designer handbag donations), and deciding which pieces I’d be bidding on to add to my collection. I ended up with a beautiful Joules mint green dress – every time I wear it I’m reminded of how much fun the clothes auction was.

I’m hoping that Volunteers’ Week will make other people realise volunteering doesn’t have to be boring.

You can channel your creative abilities, do what you love, and provide invaluable support for Henshaws. I was really proud that our event raised over £400.

We can't do it without you

Henshaws rely on voluntary donations; our work just wouldn’t be possible without people like you. Your support empowers local people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities to increase their independence, achieve their dreams, and go beyond expectations.
