Henshaws is a northern charity supporting people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities to go beyond expectations.

This is a key position supporting the work of our makers at our Arts Centre in Knaresborough.  We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated assistants to help facilitate courses throughout the year.

This is an exciting and hands-on role which can inspire and enable volunteers to pursue further study and careers in teaching and Care. The role of session volunteers is to support the workshop leader by assisting in the facilitation workshop sessions

The role includes:

Key responsibilities

  • To assist the Workshop Leader in delivering workshop sessions through practical support
  • Printmaking tasks such as screen preparation, lino cutting, and other general preparation for print processes as required. The volunteer will be trained in these techniques by the Workshop Leader as necessary.
  • Work with individual artmakers to print and to clean up after printing.
  • Give one to one support to individual artmakers who would benefit from such help from time to time
  • Help art makers to get drinks at break times, their lunches and to engage with their peers, the public and staff throughout the day.
  • Provide care and assistance as and when necessary to art makers in the workshop and at the Centre.
  • Assist Art makers to produce their own work with an aim to maximising their potential and creative abilities.

Commitment

At least one regular day or half day per week.

  • You will gain valuable experience and understanding of the services Henshaws offers.

  • We will reimburse reasonable expenses.
  • Full training and supervision will be given as appropriate for the volunteering role.
  • Volunteers are invited to attend Henshaws events which include other areas of our work.
  • We ask all our volunteers to follow Henshaws policies and procedures.
  • We will need you to complete documentation relating to the role.
