Henshaws is looking for a volunteer to give information, advice and guidance to people who are experiencing sight loss, through face-to-face, over the phone and text based support.
Role title: Volunteer Advisor
Purpose: To give information, advice and guidance to people who are experiencing sight loss, through face-to-face, over the phone and text based support.
Location: Liverpool or Greater Manchester
Time: Half day per week or month, for 6 months, usually within working hours, with some admin time
Expenses: Out of pocket costs paid in-line with Henshaws Policy
Great for… Learning new skills, adding to CV’s, supporting study, meeting new people, gaining knowledge & confidence and becoming a great communicator.
You’ll be volunteering for Henshaws in a hospital or office setting giving information, advice and guidance to people wanting to learn more about visual impairments. This may be because they are visually impaired themselves, have a friend or relative who is, or are working with someone is. They may also be a medical professional or member of the public interested in what Henshaws do and how they can support people.
Ideally, you’ll already be a friendly, organised and patient person, able to empathise with and motivate others. You should feel confident talking to people, or be willing to gain that confidence over time. It would be helpful if you had some knowledge or experience of living with sight loss.
We’ll work with you to feel comfortable supporting people with visual impairments via our immersive training. Alongside this, we’ll help you prepare risk assessments and deal with difficult situations. Occasionally, we’ll also ask you to support the charity in other ways, such as fundraising or giving talks, which you’ll also receive training in.
Please fill out the application form, then submit it below or email it to firstname.lastname@example.org, or contact 0300 222 5555 for more information.
