Take the lead
Every student at Henshaws have the opportunity to run for student parliament each year. Anyone who wants to run for parliament shows an expression of interest with our student liaison officer. The rest of our students then vote on who they would most like as their representatives.
The chosen representatives will form the student parliament. They will meet together and agree on goals for the year.
Make a difference
It’s a great opportunity to meet other students and vote on the changes you want to make. Experience activities outside of college and make an impact on the local community. The student parliament empowers you to have a voice at college. Make positive and proactive changes and gain lifelong skills. Our current student parliament
Lara is a member of the student parliament at Henshaws Specialist College with a huge passion for politics. She describes herself as “A strong willed and stubborn young woman but I also love to show everyone my caring nature and my positive attitude towards life and education.”
She says: “Since the age of around 19-20, I became fascinated in all the different areas of politics especially when it came to the educational side of politics. Ever since I overcame my own difficulties in securing funding which would allow me to become a residential student, it became a desire for me to put my own voice forward.”Read Lara's blog
Annabel is also a student parliament member. She says: “My name is Annabel and I am 22. I have a brother called William and a sister called Emily.
I love dancing and watching musicals. I enjoy making teas and coffees in enterprise as I get to ask staff what they would like. I love being pampered and my nails are always perfectly painted!!
A big achievement for me this year is my increased ability to express myself using my ipad. I am now able to build sentences to communicate my wants and needs fantastically.”
