Who are our courses for?
Our education, care and therapy teams specialise in working with young people aged 16 and 25 years with a wide range of disabilities. We think that the best people to tell you what it’s really like here are our students themselves! Follow the links below to hear their stories and learn how we support them to achieve their goals.

Life after college
Our graduates progress to further education and training, supported employment, independent and supported living, volunteering or daytime activities after leaving College. We’d love to work with you to help you achieve your goals.
Tom, from Bishop Monkton, graduated from Henshaws Specialist College in 2017.
Tom went above and beyond for his fellow students in 2016. Tom really enjoys running and when he learnt that the complex needs of some of his fellow classmates meant they couldn’t enjoy sports the same way he could, he wanted to make a difference. So he challenged himself to complete the Melmerby 10k
run to raise funds for a MOTOmed movement trainer, a specialist piece
of equipment to help students improve their mobility.
Tom completed the race in an amazing 1 hour 28 minutes – a new personal best. He raised almost £2,000 which, along with a generous donation from a local trust, has enabled the purchase of the MOTOmed for our gym.
Tom said: “I think it’s very important to give something back to people who have more disabilities than me. ”
