Week 3: 18th June: Coiled with Love Mug

Discover the joy of coil building as you craft a mug from the ground up. This session will show you how to roll, coil, and layer clay to create your mug’s body and attach a handle, making a piece that’s bound to be a cherished favourite.

Week 4: 25th June: The Finishing Touch

We’ll conclude our workshop series by bringing our creations to life with glazing. Choose from classic white or transparent glazes, with a variety of coloured glaze stains available for experimentation. This is your moment to play with colours and finishes, giving your pottery that final, unique touch.

The course will be run by local ceramicist Poppy Davis (clod.studio). Poppy has been working as a ceramic artist and educator for 8 years working with different organisations across Yorkshire, she creates colourful pottery decorated with expressive brushstrokes.

This image shows a pair of hands working on a pottery piece that appears to be in the initial stages of shaping. The setting is a well-used craft table covered in brown paper, which bears the marks and stains of clay and paint, indicating a creative workspace. The hands are in the process of sculpting a small, round pottery item with a hollow center. Various pottery tools, including a wooden rib, a needle tool, a loop tool, and a wooden modeling tool, are laid out neatly beside the work area. A rolling pin and a ruler rest on the table as well, suggesting precision work in this artistic process.
In this photograph, we see hands engaged in decorating a ceramic piece. The object being worked on resembles a brown cylindrical tower with cut-out details, and the artist is applying what looks like white slip with a squeeze bottle, possibly for decorative or functional purposes such as attaching components. Shavings of clay are scattered on the table, which is also covered with brown paper. A rolled-up slab of clay, a smartphone, and a white ceramic mug are visible in the background, hinting at a multi-faceted pottery project in progress.
The focus here is on hands that are finishing the surface of a grey clay object. The hands gently touch the clay surface, which exhibits textural details resembling scallops or feathers. The object appears to be a hand-built pottery vase or pot with an organic, uneven form. It sits on a wooden table protected by brown paper, surrounded by various clay-working tools like a wooden rib and a metal kidney scraper. To the side, we see a rolled clay coil and a brown bracelet on the wrist of one hand, adding a personal touch to the scene.
