Children, Young People and Families
Our Children, Young People and Families (CYP) service supports children and young people with sight loss, and their families, across Greater Manchester and Merseyside.
CYP Service
Our CYP service supports people from birth to 18 years if they have sight loss, and birth to 25 years if they have additional disablities.
The service provides opportunities for children and young people to develop their independence skills through the I Can Do It residential programme, and social activities and opportunities for the whole family that usually take place during school holidays and on weekends.
The service also offers information, advice and guidance on a one-to-one basis, and can signpost or refer families to other organisations if needs be.
I Can Do It
Our I Can Do It residential programme enables children and young people with sight loss aged 8-12 years and 13-17 years to develop independence skills. The programme covers a range of topics, a family day with a presentation to complete the course and celebrate individual achievement.
Holiday and Weekend Activities
Our CYP service offers a range of social activities for children and young people with sight loss, and their families, that take place on weekends and during school holidays. The activities we offer include a range of physical indoor and outdoor activities and social activities
You must book in advance to attend our activities. The activities have a booking fee however we highly subside all activities and we promote a fee weaver policy in a respectful manner to remove any financial barriers to attending our activities.
Information, Advice and Guidance
Our CYP team can also support children, young people and their families on a one-to-one basis, to answer any questions they may have. If the team can’t support you directly, they can signpost or refer to other organisations.
