There are a wide range of products and solutions out there that can help you perform everyday activities, that will enable you to maintain your independence and quality of life. Through a personal one-to-one chat, we’ll assess what your needs are and make suggestions based on the best solutions for you. These may include;
Optical or electronic magnifiers
Smartphone and tablet devices
Specialist text-to-speech devices
Accessibility software for desktop computers and laptops.
Following your assessment, we may be able to offer complimentary one-to-one training sessions with one of our staff or volunteers in Sale, Stretford (Trafford), Oldham, Bolton or Manchester Central Library.
We also offer some non-tech solutions for those living with macular degeneration, as some people can learn to use any undamaged parts of their central vision. We can teach two techniques, Eccentric Viewing and Steady Eye Strategy that can help you with activities like reading, getting out and about, cooking, looking after yourself or watching TV.

Keep up with the latest tips and news with our monthly Tech Talk group: the perfect opportunity to discuss all things technology!
Tech Talk meet every month to discuss all the new advancements in assistive technology, tech-related news and tips, and cover everything from apps to audio equipment.
All skill and knowledge levels are more than welcome – we have a friendly group of mixed abilities, with both those who are eager to learn and those who’d like to pass on their expertise.

Our groups are held at:
Trafford – Henshaws Office, 4A Washbrook House, Lancastrian Office Centre, Talbot Road, Stretford, Manchester, M32 0FP, on the fourth Thursday of every month, 10:30am until 12:30pm.
Oldham – Dovestone Room, Positive Steps, Medtia Place, 80 Union Street, Oldham, OL1 1DJ, on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, 10:30am until 12:30pm. This session is currently fully booked but you can join via zoom.
Bolton – The Thicketford Centre, 336 Ainsworth Lane, Bolton, BL2 2QL, on the 1st Thursday of every month, 10:30am until 12:30pm.
*Sessions are free but a £2 contribution is welcomed.
Our digital support is for anyone with sight loss at any age or level of knowledge and ability, as well as a range of other disabilities, such as arthritis or dyslexia.
There’s a huge variety of technology available – from free apps on your devices like Microsoft’s Seeing AI, to magnifiers or speech software on your computer such as JAWS. We work with you during your assessment to find the ones that will work best for you. Some of the products we offer specialist knowledge and training for include;

– Dolphin
– Synapptic
– Android
If cost is potentially an issue, there are a number of organisations that may be able to offer financial assistance to fund the purchase of technology and equipment. Get in touch with our friendly team for more information.
We deliver from various accessible locations across Greater Manchester. Currently we support from Manchester Central, Sale, Salford, Wigan, and Tameside Libraries, and we also deliver from community venues in Oldham, Bolton, Bury. and ST Helens. We can also offer assessments over the telephone.
Our digital assessments and training are free to access! Our digital social group, Tech Talk, ask for a £2 contribution to help cover group costs.
