In spring this year, Henshaws had a generous offer from Feld Entertainment, producers of Disney On Ice, to take a group of ten Merseyside children and young people (CYP), and their families that we support to be VIP guests at a performance of Disney On Ice Presents Discover The Magic at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.
The surprise announcement to the children took place at an afternoon tea party at Henshaws’ Merseyside office in St Vincent’s School. Once the children had taken in the surprise they feasted on sandwiches and cakes.
The children were also presented with light up Mickey and Mini headbands and a cuddly Mickey or Mini to take home.
Ahead of the live show, the CYP and their families were invited to attend a private behind-the-scenes afternoon touch tour, enabling exclusive access to costumes, props and show characters, as well as hearing how the exciting ice spectacular is produced from the sound, lighting and special effects teams.
The children got to hold the costumes of their favourite Disney characters and even got to touch Aladdin’s magic lamp. Getting really into the atmosphere, they had the experience of a snow machine!
By now, everyone was so excited for the main event. They watched the glorious ice spectacular with Mickey and his friends at Disney On Ice presents Discover The Magic, an adventure filled with world-class skating, high-flying acrobatics and unexpected stunts.
Everyone joined in with their favourite Disney Songs, and cheered and clapped at the fates of the amazing skaters and acrobats; the show was so much more than ice skating.
It was heart-warming to hear the comments from our children and from some very happy parents:
“It’s the bestest show I’ve ever seen”
“The kids have had a great time, they’ve loved every minute”
“When I saw the look on my kids’ faces, I cried”
“I recognise that sound, it’s when Aladdin rubs the lamp, I heard it during the touch tour”
Steven Armstrong, Regional Vice-President of Feld Entertainment, producers of Disney On Ice, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to invite our friends from Henshaws to enjoy the experience of a private preview behind the scenes of Discover the Magic getting up-close and personal with many aspects of this show, which captures the magic of Disney’s immortal tales through cutting edge figure-skating, glamorous costumes and stunning set designs. I’m sure this trip will make many much-loved memories for all of the families involved. That’s the magic of Disney On Ice!”
On behalf of the Merseyside families, Henshaws would like to say a massive Thank You to Disney On Ice for giving us this wonderful experience.
