Henshaws Artmakers perform The Tempest

Look at our performing arts workshop go! over the past few months our drama team created, produced and performed an amazing version of the tempest. It really was an incredible experience. Here are a few words from people who came to see it. ‘Well done to all the performers tonight a real top production of a Shakespeare classic well done all involved’ ‘I wanted to congratulate your team for all the hard work and dedication you’ve done in putting together the play. It was well organised, fun, interactive and heart-warming.’

Looking back on our immensely successful performance, Hannah, one of the performers, shared her thoughts on the essence of our adaptation, stating, “The comedy is mysterious and a little dark at times… like, you never know what’s coming next but it has a very happy ending.”

Hannah’s insightful words perfectly captured the dynamic nature of our rendition of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.” The incorporation of Makaton sign language played a significant role in bringing depth and inclusivity to the production. Jenna Foster’s portrayal of Miranda through signing, supported by Ruana Doyle’s spoken lines, added a unique and powerful dimension to the character.

Collaborative efforts from every department within the arts center contributed to the visual and immersive spectacle of the show. Stunning artworks and prop loans from Moondust Theatre Company elevated the authenticity of our production, transporting the audience to the enchanting world of the play.

The interactive nature of the performance allowed the audience to actively participate, creating an electrifying energy in the theater. Each night, the full house embraced the magic, joining us on stage to dance and play. The resounding applause and engagement affirmed the impact of our storytelling and the connection we forged.

Building on this success, we are thrilled to be preparing for the recording of “The Tempest” as a radio play, expanding its reach and allowing a wider audience to immerse themselves in the wonder of the story. Additionally, our forthcoming fairy tale cabaret performance promises an autumn filled with enchantment and delight.

We extend heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated staff and volunteers whose unwavering commitment created a safe and nurturing environment where creativity thrived. Their invaluable contributions were instrumental in the realization of our vision.

As we reflect on this remarkable achievement, we are filled with gratitude for the opportunity to bring this magical tale to life. The memories we created together will continue to inspire and resonate for years to come.
