Matty takes on Manchester Marathon

We wanted to say a huge thank you to Matty who ran the Manchester Marathon on 14th April on behalf of Henshaws Sight Loss and Disability Charity.

Matty is a personal trainer and after working with his client David and helping him to build his strength and confidence he decided to take on the Manchester Marathon in aid of Henshaws.

Very sadly David lost the sight in his right eye in an accident as a child. Unfortunately, a few years later he also received a skin cancer diagnosis around his left cheekbone.

David went through an horrific ordeal, and after receiving treatment and subsequent skin grafts, this led to him losing his sight in his left eye, where the cancer had been.

“David lost his sight in his right eye in an accident as a child. A few years ago, he also had a skin cancer diagnosis around his left cheekbone. I’m simplifying what was quite an ordeal for David here by saying that the treatment of that and the subsequent skin grafts required have led him to losing his sight in his left eye.”

“Henshaws do some fantastic work to help those affected by sight loss and other disabilities and I know how much they’ve helped David. When I signed up for this marathon I did so because I wanted to challenge myself and it’s also something I’ve had on my bucket list.”
